Cockroaches, Wine & The Handmaid’s Tale

November 17, Day 474

Sleep. And sleep. And sleep.

Wake up around 9 am. I feel like a lazy bum. I check the water in the bathtub and discover that I have water.

Hallelujah!

I have learned that on the weekends I usually do not have water. Maybe the water utilities company knows we all need to wash our clothing and is just messing with us? I’m not sure, but I’m not missing this opportunity with water.

Immediately fill up the bathtub with my clothes and washing powder and water and get them soaking.

Boil water for coffee, make breakfast.

Sit down and start watching the third season of “The Handmaid’s Tale”. Jesus, this show is horrific but I can’t stop watching it.

Good thing I had my clothes soaking because the water is out again just an hour later. The power goes out, too.

It’s scorching hot outside, so Olive comes inside and takes his favorite spot on the bathroom floor to nap while I clean the house.

He rotates back outside.

Start scrubbing clothes. Scrub, scrub, scrub. Rinse, rinse, rinse.

Wait a second… Usually when Olive goes outside and I can’t hear him on the front or back porch, that means he’s laying inside my vegetable garden in the wet sand.

Walk outside, and sure enough he dug up the whole spinach bed! I scold him and tell him to get out of there, and he just lays there with a guilty and happy look on his face.

He even dug a hole for his freakin tail!

Shoo him out, and he goes to find a new place to lay down.

Go back to scrubbing clothes. I notice the most amazing sorbet sunset as I’m hanging the clothes outside.

My house still has cockroaches everywhere. It’s completely unacceptable and I don’t know what to do! We don’t exactly have exterminators around here and my house is so clean you could eat off of the floors, so that’s not the problem.

So, I sit on the couch with my feet up, a glass of wine and my bug swatter and kill cockroaches while watching “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

A day well spent, in my opinion.

Head to bed.
